Moving abroad – further tips

So, it seems that if you’re doing the move alone it’s already complicated enough. What if you have a partner and/or kids to take care of on top of all that? There are some more things that you might need to do and take into consideration before you move. There are some suggestions listed below.
Apart from making yourself comfortable with all the things you are leaving behind, it would be good if you did some check-ins with the ones who are moving with you. So what can you do a) for your partner and b) for your children , to make the move easier?

Partner checklist

– Does s/he speak the local language?
– Can your partner continue working in his/her profession after moving abroad?
– Are his/her certifications and qualifications valid in a place you’re moving to?
– Does your company provide any support for the people who are moving with you?
– If they can’t do their job abroad, what can you do to help them find a new job or fill in their free time (if you’re the only one earning money in the household)?
– Where can you meet some new people you can potentially make friends with (eg. Meetups, work, clubs etc.)?

Children checklist

– Are your children happy and excited to move abroad or rather reluctant?
– How can you help them adapt to a new place?
– Is there a good school in the neighborhood you’re moving to?
– Are there any places nearby where your child can continue his/her extracurricular activities?
– Are there some places nearby where your children can go and play with their friends? If you try answering the above questions, it should make some decisions easier. Make sure to also read Things to do before moving abroad to make your checklist complete!Good luck!!
