Cultural reads #2

Cultural reads_ProjectAbroad.Eu

I’ve got another portion of interesting resources for you. Enjoy! 🙂

 1. How to Build Trust on Your Cross-Cultural Team

Here’s an interesting summary by Harvard Business Review about building trust within cross-cultural teams. It touches various topics, including the ones I was writing about at this blog in the Culture Map cycle, inspired by Erin Meyer’s book. An invariably challenging question is about the balance between the culture’s and personality’s influence on our behaviours – how can we know which one is more powerful? Mystery still unsolved…

Reading time: ~5 min

2. How stereotypically British are you?

The test itself is just a fun thing to do, but more funny for the actual British I guess. The reason I put this link on the reading list is actually to get your thoughts on the Britishness issue. I was recently wondering how much indeed do you consider yourself British and how much it is English or Welsh or Irish. I hear that distinction from people very often, especially when they say about their name’s origin. Any thoughts?

Reading time: ~3 min

3. A man aged 35 who Speaks 11 Languages

I’m honestly impressed by his level of these languages. I would also encourage you to check out this guy’s YouTube channel as it’s really interesting. I was wondering before and I still wonder now though how much of an influence the language knowledge has on communication.

Reading time: ~10 min + hours watching his YouTube (remember, I warned you!)

4. Culture Matters Podcast

Last but not least, my last week’s favourite – Culture Matters podcast. Various guests are invited to speak about their cross-cultural experiences and the work they do within this field. Super interesting and great way to get to know perspectives of many different people from around the world. I will be sharing my favourite episodes very soon, but for now, I’ll go and listen to another one!

One episode: ~30-40 min

5. Free printable children books to learn English

A very interesting resource recommended to me by one of the readers! If you have children in your family or friendship group who are learning English, these are some really fun beginners resources.

I hope you found these links interesting! Make sure to let me know via email or in the comments below! Any suggestions for the content are more than welcome of course, so I’m looking forward to hearing what topics would you like to see linked in this series!

I've never heard about Culture Matters podcast before. I generally love to listen podcasts while jogging or communting, and now these hours will be even more productive. Thanks for sharing!
